Ouzo

A soft, clean take on a classic anise liqueur. Crafted in copper pot stills in Massachusetts, our Ouzo is made using star anise, anise seed, and licorice root. The combination of these three botanicals produces a well balanced spirit that is best enjoyed straight.

History Ouzo is an anise-flavored Mediterranean spirit that was first commercially distilled in Greece in 1856. It’s most commonly enjoyed and made in Greece and is an important component to celebrating Greek culture today.

How to Drink Ouzo Ouzo is customarily served neat (without ice) in a tall, skinny highball glass called a “kanonakia” glass in Greek. You might add iced water to dilute it, which will cause it to turn into a milky-white color (also known as the “ouzo effect”). Ouzo is typically consumed in the late afternoon or early evening as a sipper with some food. Though many would scoff at the idea of Ouzo being mixed with anything but water, we’ve whipped up a few cocktail recipes at home for you to try if you’re feeling adventurous.

Why the Glossy Ibis?

The Glossy Ibis is a Mediterranean bird that has been naturalized to New England. In Ancient Egypt, Ibises were known as sacred birds. They were believed to have a connection to Thoth, the wise scribe and lorekeeper of the Egyptian pantheon. A sacred Greek bird for a traditionally Greek spirit!
